Shelf Improvement is a newsletter for finding new reads (that aren't necessarily new books.) You'll get a few recommendations on a theme in each email, sent roughly once a month - from me, Elizabeth, a bookseller.

Shelf Improvement started in 2018, after I had been bookselling for a couple of years. In each instalment I choose a theme (e.g. borders & boundaries) and pick around three to five books on that theme (e.g. that instalment featured The Line Becomes a River by Francisco Cantu which is non-fiction about a border and Bad Marie by Marcy Dermansky which is a novel about a woman who crosses a lot of boundaries.)

The only criteria is that I have to have read and liked it, so the books are from all genres, for all different types of readers, and aren’t necessarily recently published. This means I get to celebrate the ‘backlist’ (publishing speak for books that aren’t new releases!)

As well as writing Shelf Improvement I talk about books on instagram, on other people's podcasts, and sometimes even in front of a live audience. If you’d like to get in touch with me about any of this sort of work, please email shelfimprovement@outlook.com.
